How to Design Your New WordPress Blog

This is how you can design your new WordPress blog.

In my yesterday’s post, I wrote about the must-have initial setup you should do on your new WordPress blog. When you are done making those changes, there is one important thing you need to do before you start publishing content on your blog. And that is giving your blog a design. So, in today’s post, I will write about how you can give your blog a good design.

The design of a WordPress blog depends on WordPress themes. There are thousands of themes available for WordPress. Some of them are free, and some of them are paid.

If you check the themes section of a fresh WordPress installation, you will see a few themes there, named Twenty Twenty Three, Twenty Twenty Two, etc. These are the default WordPress themes. The developers of WordPress launch a free theme every year right since its inception.

Many people think these default themes are not that good and switch to themes from third-party developers. But that is not always the case; I have seen a few very popular sites using those default themes. So you can also customize it a bit and start publishing; however, if you want a different design if you can pick with third-party themes. Due to the popularity of WordPress, thousands of developers have built themes for WordPress.

Many beginners reach out to me and ask which theme they should use on their blog. If you guys also have a similar doubt, which theme you will be using will depend upon whether you have the budget to spend on a theme or not.

I would say, If you are a beginner and just starting your blogging journey, I highly recommend starting with free themes. Once your blog starts making a good amount of revenue, then you can switch to a premium theme.

There are many popular free themes that you can use to give your blog a start. Among all the free themes available for Blogging, the one I personally recommend is Generate Press. So, if you don’t have a budget, you can get started with it.

Other than that, some more popular free themes are Astra, OceanWP, Neve, etc. You can go with any of these themes. You just need to install and activate the theme, and your site will have a new look.

If you want to do some customization, most of these themes are very easy to customize. You can customize using the default customizer.

Next, if you have a budget for buying a WordPress theme, you have plenty of options available. Some of the very popular premium WordPress themes suitable for Blogging are Newspaper, Networker, etc. I have personally used Newspaper for the last five years, and it is a perfect theme for Blog sites.

Now after five years, I recently switched to a new theme. Many reach out to me and ask which theme I am using on TechYorker and other sites I have. To answer all of you, I am currently using a theme called Asona. It is a paid theme and is available on Themeforest.
