News Content vs Evergreen Content: Which One Should You Publish?
News Content vs Evergreen Content: Which one should you publish on your blog?
In my yesterday’s post, I announced a new series of posts about publishing high-quality content on a blog. So as promised, I am back with the first post of the series.
When we think about publishing content on a blog, the very first thing that comes to our mind is exactly what we should publish. I had suggested earlier that as soon as you think about starting a blog, you should decide on a niche for your blog. I am assuming that at this stage when you have your blog is live and ready to publish; you should have your niche ready.
Having said that, the next decision you need to make is whether you will publish news content or evergreen content. Your entire content strategy will be based on it.
Suppose you have decided to cover all the news in a certain niche, then there is not much keyword research you need to do. You just need to stay updated with the latest trend within your niche and try to cover that as soon as possible. The earlier you publish, the higher the chances of ranking.
However, if you guys ask me about whether you should write trending content or evergreen content on your blog, then my suggestion will always be to go with evergreen content. This is mainly because, in the early days of your Blogging career, you will be working solo; you won’t have a team of content writers.
If we face the truth with all the development in a certain niche, a single-person team can’t cover all of them. Even if the person manages to do it, there will be so much delay that it won’t make sense. Also, you will have to keep publishing content; if you stop covering trends for a few days, most of your traffic will be gone.
I made the same mistake back in the days when I started TechYorker. I used to think I will cover all the tech news on my Blog. I tried it for six months, and it was a huge failure.
Even after writing thousands of news articles, none of them bring any traffic at all. At the same time, all the evergreen content we published helped us grow. After that, I ultimately moved to publish evergreen content.
So, my suggestion for all of you will be to go with evergreen content. However, if you are confident about covering the latest trends within your niche, then make sure to build a team of writers from day-1 so you can publish loads of content. Then only you can even think about getting any success.
In my opinion, covering news in any niche makes sense for huge media houses. For a single-person team or a small team, it is the evergreen content that makes more sense.
All of my sites follow the same strategy of publishing evergreen content, and my entire experience is around the same. So, in the coming posts, I will write specifically about doing keyword research for sites publishing evergreen content.
I hope you got a clear answer in this news vs. evergreen debate.
That’s all in this post.
Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
