Why I Stopped Quiz Answers Despite 720k Monthly Page Views

· 3 min read

I stopped doing Quiz Answers on my Blog TechYorker even if it was bringing 720k monthly page views.

In my last post, I shared how I got 720k page views by publishing content around Quiz Answers. At the end of the post, I mentioned that I was very concerned about doing such content as it wasn’t aligning with my vision of running TechYorker. I continued doing Quiz Answers but with a different strategy. In today’s post, I will share what was the roadmap going forward.

The Quiz Answers were bringing lots of traffic. But I felt my blog is not going in the right direction. It was getting links from similar quiz sites and it would have damaged the authority I had built so far in the tech niche. One more thing that came to my mind was what if these e-commerce sites stop running these Quiz shows. In that situation, I will lose my entire traffic and by that time my original authority will be already lost.

But at the same, I also wanted to milk the traffic Quiz Answers while maintaining TechYorker as it is. So, I started looking for different options. There were two options for me: First create a sub-domain of TechYorker and publish quiz answers there and second: Do all the quiz stuff on a fresh new domain.

Starting on a fresh new domain wouldn’t have given me instant ranking. So, I decided to go with the sub-domain option. I created quiz.techyorker.com and moved all the existing quiz content there. Everything remained the same, I was still getting a similar amount of traffic. But one problem was still there people were still linking to my sub-domain pages. Although they were linking my sub-domain there was a fair chance of affecting my primary domain. And I wasn’t very happy about it.

So, again I ditched the plan of publishing quiz answers on a sub-domain. This time I went with the fresh domain route. I purchased a new domain QuizYorker.Com and shifted everything over there. It was a bit shy of relief for me that finally, my dream project could grow with the vision that I had since the beginning. At the same time, I also deleted some more content that was bringing traffic but they had nothing to do with Tech.

Continuing on to QuizYorker, I run this site for the next few months as it is. But as I predicted people slowly started taking less interest in such quizzes and by end of 2021, Flipkart, Khatabook, and others decided to stop hosting quizzes. All the sites that were primarily doing Quiz Answers traffic got impacted.

I also stopped doing Quiz Answers on QuizYorker. Although, this thing only worked for a few months. I made a significant amount of revenue. I invested the money in outsourcing content for TechYorker and also acquired a Tech website with around 40k monthly visits.

That’s it for this post, In tomorrow’s post I will share the journey of purchasing that new website. I promise that will be an Interesting read. So, please stay tuned.

Thanks for reading this post. Have a great day ahead!
