· 3 min read

This is how you can connect your domain name to your web hosting.

In my last six posts, I explained everything you guys should know about web hosting. I hope you guys now have a much better understanding about web hosts and you should be able to make your purchase decision.

As discussed in this series, you should have already selected your niche, decided WordPress.org as your Blogging platform, registered your domain and now purchased the web hosting.

When you have purchased the web hosting, the next step is to connect your Domain name with web hosting. For doing that there are two situations whether you have purchased both domain name and web hosting from the same provider or from two different providers.

Many beginners think it is really hard to connect the domain name with web hosting, if they have purchased it from two different providers.

However, the reality is both the options are completely fine and there is no such thing that you should go with the same provider. If you are getting a good deal from a different platform you should go for it without any worries.

Now let’s come to the actual topic how you can connect your domain name to the web hosting.

Let’s talk about the first scenario, If you have purchased the domain and web hosting from same provider connecting both of them will be a little easier nothing more than that.

Suppose you have purchased your domain name and web hosting from GoDaddy all you need to do is make sure your domain name is using GoDaddy’s name servers.

Next, in your DNS records A name is correctly pointed to your server’s IP address. That’s it your domain is successfully connected to your web host. In case you find it challenging you can always reach the support team of your host or reach out to me.

Now talking about the other scenario where you have purchased the domain name from a different platform and web hosting from a different provider. When you sign up for a web hosting most of them ask to update the A record in domain DNS setting to the IP address of their server. This is what Cloudways do.

However, in some cases the hosting providers requires to update the name servers of your domain name to their name servers. This is what Dreamhost asks for. Usually those hosts send their name servers details in an email or it appears in their hosting dashboard. You just need to go to your domain settings and update the name servers.

In case you haven’t received the name servers details, you can reach out to the support and they will provide you with those details. You can also make a Google search and look for it.

So this is that easy to connect a domain name to a web hosting.

That’s all in this post.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
