Should You Start With a Fresh Domain or an Expired Domain?
Starting a blog and confused about whether you should start with a fresh domain or an expired domain? Here is the answer!
In my last few posts, I wrote about buying domain names for starting a blog. I first wrote about buying fresh domains; then, I went on to explain the difference between a fresh domain and an expired domain.
Lastly, I explained the concept behind expired domains. I hope you guys now have a much better understanding of domains, whether fresh or expired, and you will be able to get a domain name for your blog.
Earlier, when there was no craze for expired domains, beginners had only one option buying a fresh domain. But now, with so much talk around expired domains, beginners often get confused about whether they should start with a fresh domain or try finding an expired domain. So, in today’s post, let me clarify which makes more sense and for whom.
Suppose you are a beginner just starting with your blogging journey; then it is most likely that you don’t have a lot of money in your hands. For many starters, even buying a fresh domain is a big deal. As buying an expired domain is an expensive affair, I always recommend beginners to start with a fresh domain.
It’s not just about the budget; spotting a good expired domain requires a good amount of knowledge. As you are a beginner, you may not check the domain properly and end up buying a domain that has an inflated DA, DR, or backlink profile.
Not just that, some domains are also penalized by Google. I have years of experience in blogging, and still, I fell for a domain and paid $235, only to find later that it has a manual penalty. So, if I am not able to judge expired domains, it will be even tougher for beginners.
Additionally, starting a new project on an expired domain doesn’t always give a guarantee that the project will succeed. I have started projects on several expired domains, and only a few of them clicked. Moreover, with the right approach, a fresh domain can outperform an expired domain.
I started a blog on an expired domain worth $810 last year in April. At the same time, one of my very close friends started a blog on a fresh domain. The niche of both projects are exactly the same. And now, after one year, both the sites are doing equally well. So, what I learned from it is expired domain doesn’t guarantee huge success, and even a fresh domain can do wonders.
Now, if you are a seasoned blogger and have already earned a good amount of income from Blogging and looking to start an additional blog, then you may consider getting an expired domain. But you will still require the knowledge of judging an expired domain so you don’t buy a penalized expired domain.
If you are able to spot a good expired domain, you may get some initial success with the indexing of your blog. However, in the long run, success will depend upon which keywords you target and the quality of your content.
I hope I am able to clear up your confusion and you guys will easily make a decision to get a domain name for your blog.
That’s all in this post.
Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
