· 3 min read

This is how I built my content writing portfolio and now get paid 8 Rupees per word.

In my last few posts, I explained how you can build your portfolio as a content writer. As you guys know, I still work with a few high paying selected clients and get paid 8 Rupees per word. All of you may be interested in knowing how I built my portfolio so that I get high paying clients. So, in today’s post I will write about which way I took to build my portfolio.

When I started my web writing career back in 2017, I had no idea about a content writing career. Initially, I wrote all of my articles on my first blog, Technical Ratnesh. I was terrible at English so I used to write in Hindi or Hinglish.

Later, I started TechYorker in October 2018 and on 1st November 2018, I wrote my first English article. After that, I was writing every single day on my Blog. So basically, my first author page was on my very own blog. I never thought I would use it as a portfolio and get clients for freelance writing.

In December 2019, I contributed a few articles for a blogger within my circle. When he asked me for the sample I shared my TechYorker author page. He instantly agreed and offered to write some articles. It was my portfolio at TechYorker that helped me get the work.

Later in 2021 when I decided to offer my services as a freelance writer and started reaching out to clients. I used to share the link of the article I had written on TechYorker. The quality of those articles were as good as the articles published on the sites where I was applying.

This is why when I asked Abhishek Bhatnagar sir to write for him he agreed. Then I went on to write 100+ articles on his new project BrowserToUse. Even on Fiverr when clients used to ask me for samples, I used to share the link to my TechYorker author page. I got several orders on Fiverr just because I had my work published under my name.

In March 2022, I was in urgent need of funds for my business so, I started applying to various Indian and International publications. While applying I was sharing my TechYorker author page and also the BrowserToUse author page. I used those bylines to get more work and ended up with bylines on even more publications. Once my work was published on a few sites it became much easier for me to get more work.

It is easy for you to understand that it was starting a blog that helped me build my portfolio which I used to get the first few clients. So, if you are struggling to get work as a content writer I will suggest you start your own blog. I have already explained everything about starting a blog in my previous post. If you still have any doubts about it you can reach out to me and I will help you to the best of my capability. So, this was everything about how I built my content writing portfolio.

Once you have a portfolio ready, the next thing is to find clients. Starting tomorrow, I will write how you can find clients for your content writing services.
