How to Find Clients as a Content Writer

· 3 min read

This is how you can find clients as a Content Writer.

In my last several posts, I have shared my suggestions for becoming a highly paid content writer. So far, I have shared how you can decide a niche, consume content in your selected niche and then build a solid portfolio. Once you have followed all of these suggestions and have a decent portfolio the next step is to find clients for your services.

This is the biggest challenge with which most content writers struggle. So starting today, I will share everything I know about finding clients. So, if you are a content writer and struggling to find clients for your services then keep reading my daily posts for the next few posts.

As per my understanding, basically there are two ways you can get clients for your content writing services: 1. Freelance Platforms 2. Direct Clients.

I have personally experienced getting clients by both ways. Each of them have their own pros and cons. I will go deeper into both the ways of finding clients via freelance platforms as well as making direct clients. For this post, let’s get familiar with both ways.

  • Freelance Platforms: You may have heard of platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, PeoplePerHour, etc. All of these are freelance platforms connecting businesses and professionals with expertise in a specific niche. One can find professionals providing every sort of service like video editing, website development, graphics designing including content writing. You can sign up for all these platforms and create your account. Some of them allow you to create a Gig for your service and then prospect buyers will reach out to you. Most platforms require freelance writers to send their proposals on job listings. Everything is good about getting clients from freelance platforms. Only complaint you may have is the crazy 20% platform fees they deduct. I have tried all these platforms personally so I know what works best on a specific platform. So expect detailed posts about each platform in the coming days.

  • Direct Clients: After working with both freelance platforms and direct clients, I personally work with direct clients. The first client I found was also within the blogger community. Later I went to try both ways and after working with dozens of clients I can certainly say your aim should always be getting direct clients. Not only will you save 20% platform fees but what I have experienced with direct clients they also pay more than the clients you will find on freelance platforms. Generally, clients on freelance platforms have a mindset of getting freelancers at a cheap rate. You can start with freelance platforms but always aim for making direct clients. You can reach out to website owners from their contact us or hiring page. You can also reach out directly to them or their hiring person on LinkedIn or Twitter.

So this is a brief explanation of the two ways you can get clients for content writing. Some of you may be already aware of it but still I wrote it for those who are new to content writing. I hope you got some value from it. In tomorrow’s post I will write a detailed post about getting clients from freelance platforms. So, please stay tuned for that.
