Informational Content Vs Purchase Intent Content: What's the Difference?

In my yesterday's post, I wrote about how you can make money from your blog through affiliate marketing.

As I wrote in my post, the amount of success you will get in affiliate marketing will depend upon the type of content you are creating whether it is informational or having a purchase intent.

But the problem is, most beginners don't understand the difference between both these type of content. That's why in today's post, I will explain how informational content is different from the purchase intent content. So let's start.

Let's first understand what is informational content. As the term "information" suggests, it means the content from which we get information around a topic. Below are some of the article types that are usually informational.

What is: Suppose you write a content where you are explaining about something. It will be an informational content. E.g. What is ChatGPT?

How to Use: Next, if you are trying to explain how to use a certain feature then it will be an informational topic. E.g. How to Use ChatGPT?

How to Fix: Another good example of informational content could be troubleshooting articles. E.g. How to Fix ChatGPT Not Working

These above articles are a good example of informational content. As you can see in these article types you just give information around something. You can't promote products directly in them.

Now let's understand about the purchase intent content. As the term "purchase" mean it has something to do with helping readers make purchase. Below are some of the article types that have purchase intent.

Review: The best example of purchase intent content is review articles. If you are reviewing a product or a service you can add a call to action button containing your affiliate link. E.g. Bluehost Review

Comparison: Next, suppose if you are comparing two different products or services. You explained all the differences between them. In between your content you can add a best buy link to that product. Some of your readers will make the purchase bringing you commission. E.g. Bluehost vs Dreamhost

Listicles: These are the article types which have the highest purchase intent. The readers who are looking for best products are the ones who are very close to making purchase. So you wrote a post talking about a certain number of products and add affiliate links for all of them. E.g. Best Web Hosting

So above are three article types that contain purchase content. If you publish articles like one of these three, you are going to earn affiliate commission.

I hope now you understand the difference between information content and purchase intent content.

That's all I wanted to write in this post.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day!
