My Strategies for Buying Expired Domains

· 3 min read

In my last post, I shared how I purchased all of my expired domains. On all the expired domain related posts, some of you commented and asked strategies to acquire Expired domain. So, in today's post I will share my strategies for buying expired domain.

Decide Your Niche: Before start looking for an expired domain, decide upon a niche in which you want an expired domain.

Finding Expired Domains: Once you have your niche now you can start finding them. I found all of my expired domain on Dan.com and GoDaddy Auction. But this is not place, you can try expireddomains.net, domaincoasters.com

What to Look For: When you came across a domain name within your niche there are certain things you need to look for.

DA - Check Moz's Domain Rating. It's not the most important factor but gave a quick idea.

DR - Ahref's Domain Rating. Again not a deciding factor. Because these can be manipulated.

Backlink Profile: Here comes the most important factor backlink profile. Check all the backlinks pointing to the expired domain.

Most links to Root Pages: If possible try to find a domain name that has most links pointing to root pages like the homepage. If the links are buried inside so many pages. You will find it hard utilising them.

Archive.org: Enter the domain name on Archive.org and see all the previous instances where it appeared on Archive. Make sure to check every single appearance to get extra sure.

Traffic Analysis: One most important thing to check after it the traffic of last few months. You can use Ahrefs Organic Traffic graph tool. Make sure the traffic on the domain has not decreased suddenly. It indicates a possible penalty from Google.

Don't place Bid Only Observe: When you decided to buy a domain and satisfy with all its metrics don't place a bid immediately. If you start placing the bids you will end up increasing the prices. So wait and watch silently how things are going and only place your bid in the last 15 minutes of auction expiry.

Create Similar Pages: When you get the domain name and your site is ready create relevant pages for the deleted pages with most backlinks and redirect them to get the most link juice.

Use Domain to Redirect it to Other Domain: Many people redirect a domain to their existing domain. It also works if you redirect the pages with most links to one of your relevant pages on the existing domain.

Give 6 months to see the results: Some expired domain show results with a slight delay may be 6 months so wait for it to happen.

So, these are the best practices you can follow to get a good expired domain and build a successful project on it. That's it for this post. In the coming posts, I will share the exact strategies I used to grow traffic on the expired domains I had purchased.
