How to Use Upwork to Get Clients for Content Writing
This is how you can use Upwork to get clients for Content Writing.
In my last several posts, I explained everything about using Fiverr to get clients for content writing. As I am going through basically explaining different freelancing platforms you can try to get clients for content writing. Another very popular freelance platform is Upwork so starting today I will talk about using Upwork to get content writing clients. Let’s start.
Those of you who are new to freelancing and haven’t heard about Upwork, it is a remote work website which you can use to get clients for not just content writing but other skills as well. Upwork was previously called Elance-oDesk. The concept of Upwork is if you have a certain skill you create your profile on the platform.
On the other hand there are buyers signing up for the platform. Usually they post their requirements in the form of a job posting. After it the job starts appearing in the Upwork feed. Now freelancers can start sending their proposals, filling all the details asked by job posters like relevant experience, work samples, a cover letter, resume, etc. The buyer goes through all the received proposals and hires a few people for the work.
So this is how Upwork works. Now let’s understand what you can do to succeed on the platform. First thing first you will need to create your account on Upwork. After creating the account create a specialized profile on the platform based on the skills you have, set an hourly rate of your services.
If you are finding it challenging to set up your Upwork account you can watch tutorials on YouTube or if you need any help from my side you can reach out to me.
When you have completed setting up your Upwork account the next step is to start sending proposals to the job posted for the skills you have. To combat spam on the platform Upwork has a concept called Connects. Freelancers need connects to send proposals. You will get some free connects every month and if you want to send more proposals you will need to purchase connects.
I suggest freelancers to send proposals on the jobs where they think they are most likely to be hired. On Upwork your cover letter becomes the most important aspect. Make it appealing that the hiring persons at least reply to you because Upwork gives a few connects every time you get a response from buyers.
One mistake freelancers make is they create a cover letter and copy paste it while sending a proposal. This is the worst approach you could take. I highly suggest writing a customized cover letter while applying for a job.
Suppose client requires Mac related articles then write a cover letter that includes your experience covering Mac topics with a few published articles backing up your claim. This will leave an impression on the client and they will respond to you and hire you for the role.
So basically, this is how you can leverage Upwork to make clients for your content writing services. That’s for this post, in tomorrow’s post I will write about my experience working on Upwork. So please stay tuned for that.

Have a great day!
