How to Use Freelance Platforms to Get Clients for Content Writing
This is how you can use freelance platforms to get clients for Content Writing.
In yesterday’s post I wrote about how you can find clients as a content writer. I mentioned two ways of getting clients 1. Freelance Platforms 2. Direct Clients. I promised to explain both the ways with more insights. So today I will write about how you can use freelance platforms to get clients.
There are a bunch of freelance platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, PeoplePerHour, and many more. Among these I have personally tried Fiverr, Upwork and Freelancer. As I have real life experience getting clients from there. I will write about these platforms only. Let’s start with Fiverr.
Fiverr: Among all the freelance platforms Fiverr is my favourite. The best part about Fiverr is you don’t have to send proposals on Job listings. You just have to create a nice Gig and clients will reach out to you if they like your Gig. If you want to try out freelance platforms my first recommendation will be trying Fiverr.
All you have to do is sign up for Fiverr and publish a Gig for your content writing services. Make sure you add a Title which includes keywords that buyers search in the Fiverr search. As a new seller you will get your first order from the search only. Your Gig will not get recommended in the articles and blog posts category.
If you are going to try Fiverr one most important advice I have for all of you is stay online on Fiverr as much as possible. This strategy worked the best for me to get more orders. I will explain some more strategies in a more detailed manner in the coming posts.
Upwork: Next platform after Fiverr you should try is Upwork. I have personally tried Upwork and found three very good clients for my content writing services. Upwork works a little differently than Fiverr. Here most of the time you will get clients by sending proposals to job listings posted on Upwork. I personally didn’t like this approach but you should definitely try it.
Initially you have to create and update your profile and then send your proposals to content writing jobs listed there. One piece of advice for all of you is to send detailed Cover letters. Write a unique and tailored cover letter for a specific client. Don’t just copy and paste the same cover letter to every client. If they are looking for articles around specific topics include the links of a few articles you have written around that niche in the past. This single strategy helped me get a reply from the hiring person.
Freelancer: I have also tried Freelancer. It is more like Upwork and you need to send proposals on job postings. I created my account on Freelancer back in 2017 and tried using it in 2020, 2021.
Despite all the tries, I was not able to get any orders from there. So, I haven't had a good experience on Freelancer. But I will still encourage you to try it out. I knew a few people who have successfully used it to get clients for their content writing services.
All you need is sign up for Freelancer and start sending proposals to job listings. Although I didn’t succeed on Freelancer, I will still make the same suggestion as Upwork. Try writing customized cover letters which includes relevant work experience.
So, this was all I wanted to write on how you can use freelance platforms to get clients for content writing. I hope some of you will find it useful.
In tomorrow’s post, I will write a detailed post about how you can use Fiverr to get clients for your content writing services.
