These are the different types of web hosting for Bloggers.
In yesterday’s post, I gave a brief overview of web hosting. Things like what web hosting is, how does it work, and its history. Moving forward, in today’s post, I will write about different types of web hosting. So let’s start.
There are several types of web hosting, and I have written about them below:
- Shared Hosting: The first and most popular type of web hosting is shared hosting. This is what most hosting companies such as Godaddy, Hostinger, Dreamhost sell. As the name shared hosting suggests, this hosting shared resources with others sites on the same server. These resources are CPU, RAM, Storage, etc. Your website will be hosted alongside several other websites of other customers on the same server. The number of websites hosted on the server depends on the hosting company. The reason behind the popularity of shared hosting is it is cheap. As the hosting company sells the same server to several customers, the cost comes down to very nominal. Those who are running out of budget and want to host their website go with shared hosting. This is what most affiliate marketers recommend to beginners. There is nothing wrong in getting started with it, but you should be aware of the fact that your website may experience performance issues due to some others sites hosted on the same server.
- VPS Hosting: The next type of web hosting is VPS hosting. If you are curious, the VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. The term Private means resources are private for a single user. It is a cost-effective variant of owning a dedicated server. In VPS hosting, what hosting companies do is they divide a dedicated server into several parts using a virtual partition. By this, the resources are divided and allocated to a single user. It is a perfect solution for website owners who want dedicated resources but running short on budget.
- Dedicated Server: The next type of web hosting on the list is a dedicated server. As the name clearly suggests, with a dedicated server, all the resources of the server will be dedicated to one user. You will have access to the root directory, and you can use it the way you want. Whether you are not using all the resources, you will still be paying the cost of the dedicated server. This is a perfect solution for businesses that have grown to a certain level, and they have the requirement to serve millions of visitors every month.
- Cloud Hosting: If you are a little bit active in the web hosting industry, you must have heard about cloud hosting. Most people often get confused about it. In traditional hosting, one dedicated server was there; the hosting company could sell it as shared hosting, VPS hosting, or rent the entire server. However, if the customer requires more servers, it is challenging to scale things. Cloud hosting solved this pain point. Basically, cloud computing is a cluster of several servers connected to each other. So, it becomes much easier when it comes to scaling. A customer can use a small virtual part of it as a cloud VPS and scale the resources as the requirement arises. This is why cloud computing has become so popular, and almost the entire hosting industry is making a switch to it.
So primarily these are the types of web hosting we have today. Other than that, we have managed WordPress hosting, which is basically a shared or VPS hosting designed especially for WordPress, and there is no significant difference attached to it.
I hope you guys now understand the different types of web hosting.
That’s it for this post.
